DIRECTOR's NOTE

Hello there!

My name is JJ, otherwise known as Solfege.

A year and a half ago from writing this I decided to

start shipping my Sonic OC Xavier with Amy Rose.

Although I thought it was a normal thing at the time,

I quickly learned that shipping OCs with canon

characters was a pretty unique thing to do! My friends

were in full support of this, and it's thanks to them

and my imagination that the ship still

remains a part of me today.

Original and fan Sonic characters are something that most people will regard as "cringe", but I see it as the opposite. I believe they are creative outlets that can act as a basis for entire stories, relationships and worlds. They thrive off our imagination and they help us express ourselves in a way we can't with other mediums, but we can with Sonic and its canon cast of characters.

Some of us love that canon cast so much we imagine our characters interacting with them. Laughing with them, talking with them, sharing tender moments with them. Why?

The answer is interactivity.

Having our characters interact with those of the canon world can help us to feel even more connected to the world in itself, as we're essentially rooting ourselves in this world's depths, without ever straying from our own imagination that we've put in. Although these interactions will likely never be made canon, we can still let our imaginations flourish and let that serve as an inspiration for others, and maybe even for Sonic Team or SEGA.

As a Christian, I've always strived to be inclusive and sharing God's love to everyone I meet. While this doesn't mean I'll agree with everything I see or experience in today's world, I can still encourage others to let their imaginations flourish. When God entrusted Adam to name all the animals, don't you think he had to use his imagination there? When Solomon was building God's temple? When the walls of Jerusalem were being rebuilt? God created us to use our imaginations for good. I can't force you to believe in him, but I can tell you about the stuff he's done for me and what I believe in. Throughout the zine process, I've been praying and asking for his guidance; he most definitely has provided.

If you're a fan of worship music like myself, you may even notice that the name of his zine is an omage to an extremely famous contemporary worship song of the same name. Listen to it for yourself!

You'll also notice that the zine is split into sections, each section highlighting one of the many characters that the Sonic series has introduced to us. We all have different perceptions of these characters. Although we see every character presented differently, we can remain united in letting our creative ideas spill out, and use this as a basis for conversation, debate, roleplaying, or whatever else!

Lastly, I've made it my goal to have artists of almost all skill levels and types (digital/traditional) to participate. I believe that the meaning behind the art does not come from the skill of the artist, but rather the artist's and audience's perception and imagination of what's portrayed.

So I hope you'll join me in venturing into a world full of diversity, openness, and freedom.

A world that we can only imagine...
